Maybe the answer is -- Ohio has anti-gouging laws and they need to be enforced. Just thinking out loud.

I walked in yesterday -- the cucumber was $1.99 in Akron. $.33 in Medina. Soft in Akron. Fresh in Medina. You tell me.
    Good thread. Interesting/thought provoking topic.

Like many things in life, it's complex. With a lot of facets to the issue.

One can listen to endless tales from both sides (tenants and landlords)....and they can all provide wonderful (often true) horror stories blaming each other.

Thank you @DGUtley. Even though we disagree on the extent of the problem, both of us understand that in USA poor people could be treated better.

The poor and working class are the most easily exploited so they're the most frequently exploited.

He may say what you want to hear but neither of you two could explain why a competitor would not move in on this hugely profitable situation. Especially when these stores build across the street from each other, in the area he told us offers much lower prices. Is thhe claim that they do not like money from minorities? LOL

That's a good question -- I don't know why there's not another grocery store. Correction: The store in the area offering the much lower price was 24 miles away where I live. Hemmed in property wise? That's a good question. I don't know.

I have to agree despite my story. My point is that if their was money to be made then competitors would be flooding in.

Pricing depends on Volume, Sales Expense, Losses and returns, Overhead and simple factors.
Company B always wants to expand and if they see the ability to expand into Company As territory then they are going in and building the store.

Noting else has to be added to that. 500% profits do not stand unless there is no volume or no competition.
