    The call you use depends on the time of day and year. I find the coyote pup in distress seems to work best in general.

    The problem now is that they've seen your husband, they have heard a gunshot, none of them were hurt and as such they will be desensitized next time there is an encounter. Coyotes are not endangered and can be a real problem when socialized with humans in that manner. We have pets and kids attacked here on a yearly basis and it's always in the suburbs where they see lots of people without consequences.
