Merely explaining to Pete that always waiting or in reaction mode doesn't prevent terror attacks. Pete for the longest time opposed US troops against ISIS preferring our confrontation remain covert. That longest time I spent trying to convince him that the United States involvement was inevitable, and would cost more in blood and money the longer we waited.

And the Islamic State was permitted to fester....and carry out attacks not only in Syria and Iraq, but they transformed into an international terror threat right under our isolationist noses. After the Paris incident, Europe, the United States, the Media, and this Forum realized that the US would indeed be required, our firepower, our direct overt involvement.

You just cannot sit idle while others plot your destruction from abroad, we learned the harsh lesson on 9-11-01......well....nearly all of us learned that harsh lesson. Some people.....thick headed. Stubborn. Have to be shown as if they're from Missouri.

I know more people are going to die. My point is we don't have a genocide. 60 is not a genocide. Even 130K if that is what you meant.
Didn't say refugees were dying. They are taking people with homes and Turing them into refugees.

If troops are actually pulled out of Syria, I would not support sending them back at a later date.

    Don't confuse strategy with tactics.

We could have left Afghanistan in 2005 and conducted Operation Jaw Breaker type raids at will after that date at a very small fraction of the cost of the bring Jeffersonian democracy to tribes route the Neocons picked.

We could have also kitted up all of the arm chair generals and dropped them into Helmand Provide to shore things up until we decided to conduct another raid. You could have been a contender.

The Neocons didn't pick, Barack Obama and you realpolitik policy wonks picked surge and nation build in Afghanistan.

The same ol story the same ol song and dance. First a comment on how I confuse, or I misread, or I don't understand. Then you have a neocon comment desperately trying to deflect attention off your own indefensible statements, then a personal slight on me.

It's why I love ya Pete, I always know when you've been bested.

You know what I said there is true, you react predictably.

Peter, you cannot possibly sit idle and leave these conflicts abroad without attention. The conflict in Afghanistan, that turned to civil war, that ended in Taliban rule, became a vital national security interest of the United States. Likewise the conflict in Syria, that turned into a civil war, that ended in ISIS ruling a mini-caliphate became a vital national security interest of the United States. Even Yemen, that is in civil war that fast becomes a vital national security interest of the United States. Correct
