    Thank you all.
    Everyone of you.
We are concentrating on the joy he brought into our lives. He gutted more toy ducks and geese than I can count.
He'd find the seam on the stuffed toy and chew it until it gave him access to the stuffing which he would spread out over the floor. Then it was go get him another one and repeat.
He loved walking, and riding and traveling. Anywhere he could get out and sniff and pee.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. Our animals become like our children except that they almost always pass before we do.

16 years ago he somehow escaped or was rescued and we met. He liked my wife but not me very much at first. We believe it was because male men were his handlers and they were very mean to him. They for some reason shot him 3 times with a pellet gun. They pulled his ears and hit him to try to make him mean so he would unsuccessfully try to fight the trained pit bulls.
We became friends. It took a bit. I understand why he didn't trust men. It only made me that much more determined to make him forget.
15 months ago the Vet told us he only had weeks to live, not months. He defied those odds and walked a mile every morning until today.
The unconditional love we experienced these last 16 years was extra special.

He died in my arms this morning.
    I miss him dearly.
I just lost my dog of 14 years yesterday. Usually when I travel he stays at home with a house sitter. Seeing that I am only going to be in Mexico for a couple of weeks, I put him in a local kennel. It is a great place.

They called me and said that he was acting lethargic and stumbling and asked permission to have a vet come look at him. They made the appointment for the next day, but he died in his sleep.

I think I’m going to have a tough time dealing with this when I get back home next week.

No matter what, he is the last dog I will ever have. Losing them is just more than I want go through any more. It’s like losing a family member. The older I get, the harder it gets.

Several years ago, my adult daughter's then-significant other had a dog that his sister could no longer keep flown up from El Paso, and Yoda quickly bonded with her and her dog. He was the sweetest, silliest dog you can imagine and he loved everyone, licking their faces at every opportunity. His parents were pit mixes, but Yoda somehow came out looking exactly like a typical hound.

The wife called me last Friday and asked if I could leave work and meet our daughter at the vet. Yoda had developed an aggressive brain tumor and was almost completely paralyzed. My daughter was devastated, of course. After what seemed an eternity, the vet came in with the drugs to put him down. I told her what I tell everyone: let your face be the last thing they see, and your voice be the last thing they hear. There's no way to know for sure whether it helps them, but it will absolutely help you in the days and years to come.

However much we may disagree with one another about so many things, there are other things that we all have in common - one of which is that we love our animals and we miss them terribly when they're gone.

My sincerest sympathies. Losing our furry family members hurts a lot.

When I've lost my cats along the way, I always swore never again. But think about how you gave so much, and he gave so much back. Pass it on. Let someone else furry know how great it is to be a member of your family....

My Jake was deaf. That was tough.
His vision was limited given his age of 17.
His smell was never in question.
I put my face as close to his nose as I could.
    I exhaled when he inhaled.
    It's all I could do.

I will never really know why but my Jake always loved to chase kitty cats.
Of course there were certain breeds of dogs he was always aggressive towards also.
Sometimes they get along and sometimes they don't.

I have a fond memories from a long time ago.
I used to have a ferret and he loved to play with cats.
