I'd adopt the dog if that was possible. I'd rename him Otto.

Under the new Army policy the dog's handler has the right to adopt the dog before anyone else. In the not so distant past they were putting them down when their service was done. Animal rights groups worked with the dog handlers to get a policy change.

When I lived in military housing at Ft Carson one of my neighbor's was an MP who adopted a retired working dog. He was a real friendly dog.

    His was a drug dog.

I saw the military dogs doing dirty work. When I was enlisted there was a gay soldier who assaulted his room mate. The platoon went after him and beat the $#@! out of him. The field officer of the day called the MPs and they had to get the dogs in to break it up. The gay guy almost died. It was 3/187th. We watched from the parking lot. I was in 1/187th.
