There's something in the woods tonight

There's something in the woods tonight. Normally the baby Racoons knock on the back door like clockwork. Tonight there was no knock. I got some food to take out anyways. Normally when I go out to feed them, they will come right up to me. Tonight they didnt. I could see them looking at me though from the bushes, and under the stairs of a shed. It was really strange for them to not come out. For a second there I thought hey, should I be standing out here, Lol? If the Racoons are too afraid to come out then what the heck am I doing out here?

I put the food out, it took a while but they did come out. I watched from the window. They were totally skittish, and kept looking all around them. One even went on guard while the others ate. Normally they eat every last drop of food till it's gone, they don't mess around. But not tonight. They only ate just a little bit and went back into hiding.

I suppose it could be a bear or a mountain lion. I'm leaning towards Big Foot personally. I do live in Big Foot country, Lol. :)

What do you feed the raccoons? The ones who come up on the counter outside the kitchen window eat the dry cat food, and I've tried putting part of a cut-up apple out there for them, but they ignore it.

Try ears of corn. The last time my sister and I went camping, we bought 12 ears from a roadside vendor to grill on fire, and that night a group of rogue raccoons got into the back of the truck and stripped every single ear.

I feed them dry cat food. That's how the whole feeding them thing started in the first place. We were feeding a stray cat. A few racoons would come and join him in eating his cat food, Lol. But we always toss food out if we are not going to eat it. They love peanut butter sandwiches. They like most food but wont touch celery or carrots, strange. I even put some eggs out once some boiled some raw and they ate every drop. My racoons love the apples. I cut them up and toss them out if they start to get too old. I am shocked your racoons ignored the apple. Maybe your not the only one feeding them? I did try to put out some cracked corn for them, they ignored that. They are spoiled.

We (me and my old man) had went on vacation for over a week some months ago and the racoons left. They must have gotten really hungry while we were away. About a month later they showed back up with some babies. I had told my old man, we shouldn't start feeding them again. But he said it wasn't possible to look them in the face and not feed them. He's right, so we are now feeding about 7 of them. I never took pics of the babies but they are really adorable. They were so small when they first showed up, and they would sit next to the food pile grab some and lay on their backs while eating it. They are pretty darn cute, and playful.

LoL, that was a serious treat for the racoons. :)

I highly recommend that you not make pests out of them because they excel at it.

    LOL.

I keep a can of $2 Blue Diamond alligator meat dog food for Have-A-Heart trapping them, then relocating them to a park, but I haven't seen one in a couple years, when several lived in the storm drain.

Cute little rascals, with emphasis on rascals. Garbage goons is what they are, a real pain in the keister.
