That's a significant workforce. Are they also some of the largest employers in those cities or towns?

The cars are tariff free as well.

I've heard just the opposite about Opel, but they haven't been sold in the US since the mid 70's, so.......

Some Opels are sold here but under different brands. Before Saturn folded in 2010, they mostly sold Opel models the last few years. I had a Saturn Astra, which was the Opel Astra in Europe. It was crap. Most of the other rebranded Opels under Saturn were rated poorly as well.

There's a Toyota plant in Huntsville AL. and a BMW plant in the Greenville Spartanburg area of SC. Those are two large metropolitan areas that are pretty diverse in manufacturing. I'd imagine some of the 19 are in or near towns small enough that would probably close up if the plant shut down.

Some people say a Chevrolet Corvette is crap. Others say any ford product is crap. Personally I say the more competition, the better.

I read where Opel is going to reintroduce a modernized version of the Opel GT and get into the American market. I think it’s a good idea.

The Wiki link I posted needs updating. There are 33 foriegn car manufacturing plants in the US. Most of the Corps have engineering and or testing facilities also.

The BWW plant in SC is their only one, but it employs 23,000 people and turns out almost 2000 cars a day.

I might be wrong, but Opel and Saturn were two completely different automakers. They were just owned by the same corporation so to speak.

Opel has not been in the American market since the mid 70’s.

    That’s pretty significant.
