Video Released of Police Officer Fatally Shooting Woman Wielding Scissors

LOUISIANA — The Bossier City Police Department has released surveillance and body cam video of the incident in which 45-year-old Shannon Rupert of Shreveport was shot and killed by Bossier City Police officer Patrick Edmonds, Jr. on October 25. The police department and the Bossier Parish District Attorney’s Office have found the fatal shooting to be justified.

Wow, couldnt he have tazed her instead? We should teach our officers to shoot people in the arm or leg when they can. This was not a justified shoot in my opinion, she had her arms out to the side when she was walking toward him. Gosh he shot that lady in the heart twice because she was having a bad day.

What cowards some of our officers are becoming, that they cant handle the slightest fear moment without pumping someone full of lead!!!! Be a man. That lady was having a mental break down. That was not death sentence worthy. He looked like he was just itching to shoot her. I mean what the heck she was already down and he was still screaming in fear for her to drop the scissors, really???? What were you still in fear of your life? That lady was already as good as dead.

He shot her because she was trying to kill him.

First, not all cops carry Tasers. Second, Tasers are not 100% effective. They often fail. Third, you don't use a Taser against a charging suspect. If you miss, or the Taser fails, you are dead.

SHE made the decision that led to her death, not the cop. He REACTED to HER decisions.

It wasn't an act of cowardice and I am pretty sure when he left the house that morning, he didn't say to himself "I sure hope I get to shoot some crazy old woman today" It is really easy for you to be critical and yammer on about things of which you know little or nothing. You are not even thinking about the fact that the cop will have to live with that shooting for the rest of his life. He will replay it in his head a thousand times, asking himself if he did the right thing, whether he should have handled it differently.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't ever think your opinion actually matters.

No we shouldn't. If someone is coming at you with a knife intent on killing you would you want to be constrained to shooting them in the leg or arm which may or may not stop them?

He should have run back to his car and got his bean bag shooter and then shot her. Of course she may have stabbed a few people before he got back but hey, they probably deserved it.

By the way, the police are trained to aim for center mass, not the arm, leg, head, foot, hand, toe or buttocks. Center mass, sure fire way to neutralize the threat.
