Looked like Pits to me. Hard to tell. Wouldn't be surprised. They're often used as protective dogs when that isn't what they were bred for.

As evidenced those dogs were obviously ill trained and ill handled given the attack came from outside the owner's property. Charges should be levied and the dogs put down as dangerous.

In the 70s things were alot different than today, they used to send police details out to kill packs of wild dogs that showed aggression towards humans. Today they send animal control they herd them up and they wind up gassing them anyway
