Sorry, but I'm still not seeing any connection between the two incidents. In one, the officer who was murdered presumably acted reasonably and in compliance with his training. I trust we'd all have a problem if SOP on traffic stops involved approaching a car stopped for speeding with a gun drawn and aimed at the driver; there was only so much the officer could do to protect himself in that situation. In the other scenario, the officer was not forced to execute the driver - along with, potentially, anyone else in the vehicle - to save his own life; he could have stepped or run out of the way, which is what police in most places are taught to do. There were certainly enough police cars on the scene, let alone however many more could have easily been called to assist, to box the suspects in at some point.

Whenever a police officer is in contact with a criminal suspect, they are prepared to expect the unexpected.

Of course. That in no way supports the idea that firing your weapon at something or someone is always the best response when the unexpected happens.

Sometimes it is. It's easy to criticize an action when you weren't there to witness the entire incident.

Video helps, especially when you have it from multiple angles. So does the testimony of eye witnesses, as long as it is truthful.

Videos often capture only a sliver of time.

As long as the video in this instance captures the car and the officer, their physical positioning relative to one another, and what action the officer takes or does not take, that is enough, isn't it? Sometimes an officer or officers will justify their extreme actions by citing how long they had to chase the suspect, or how many lives the suspect endangered or how much property damage he caused in the course of the chase. (The Rodney King beating is a good example of this.) And while such things sometimes EXPLAIN an officer's actions, they don't justify it.

I prefer to see the entire picture, not just one shall slice. The Rodney King diversion has been noted.
