Sports buzz words and hype phrases

Back in the day it seems like sports casters at least tried to be original. Things like "get anew ball" or "stumbling, bumbling, fumbling " followed by a play on words with the guys name.

But now it's almost like an effort to all say the same stuff and the more often the better apparently. So I thought I'd start a thread with a list of either beloved or over used buzz phrases. Please add some.

Lame sports phrase

1) Playing the game at a very high level
2) Run the rock
3) This player is athletic! ( No $#@!!, he's a pro athlete) If you find one who is NOT athletic tell me about that.

Beloved
1) Good by Mr. Rawlings
2) Virtually anything Chris Berman says in the highlights.

Steve Lyons used to crack me up when he was broadcasting for the Diamondbacks in '03-'04. He would actually come up with some pretty funny and (I believe) original things to say on occasion.

An outfielder would bobble the ball, drop it, kick it around, and Lyons would say, "That's right...follow it around for a while, see what it eats."

Exactly. I remember when John Gruden was calling games he seemed to wind up with "one of the best screen teams in football" every week. I guess he was technically correct, they were always among the top 32

I remember that show Gruden used to do where he interviewed college QB's who were expected to be top draft picks. He had everyone of them eventually going into the Hall of Fame.
