Unless they were also blocking your way in the other direction, I'd think it would be difficult to make the case that you were being detained.

The closest I've ever come to being in this position was when I lived in a small town in northern California. I got up one Saturday morning to drive to the nearby Naval Station and the road outside my house was literally solid curb to curb with bicycles - hundreds of them. They were preparing to start off on some kind of mass ride for something-or-other, and apparently the starting line was right outside my house on this little side street we lived on. I stood beside my car and shouted to anyone who'd listen that I needed to get to work, but they all pretended not to hear me. So I got in my car, started it up and began to drive very slowly right into the crowd. They moved.

You're not going to generate support for your cause if you block traffic and stop people from doing the things they need to do in the conduct of their daily life. Traffic is frustrating enough without this kind of BS.

I don't have a front yard. I do have a cane, but it is in my prepper's closet.

Before Police are dispatched to a protest they are given orders by the field usually a Captain that were send down by the Command Center.

Understand this police on the scene do not arbitrarily do anything, they do what they are ordered to do.

If they are ordered to disperse the protesters, they bring in suited and shielded task force, tear gas and if necessary water canons. and rubber bullets.

That wasnt a protest that was a few people being idiots, a protest, a real protest is hundrdeds and in the thousands.

Well, in some cities have stopped the police from doing that. Sometimes people have to do things for themselves.

They also like to target the elderly. Like a guy in a wheel chair at one. This one didn't go well for them even though they were older.
