So Trump should recuse himself from any action that might make him look good politically, regardless of whether it also helps the nation? Now I see the DNC's devious plan.
Even if this was a legit action he should have delegated this particular job because of the blatant conflict of interest.
Instead he He did it through a back channel. he hid the transcript on a code word server.

makes him look good? You mean by launching a political investigation into his opponent? please tell me you are kidding.
If he was interested in investigating corruption in general, he might have used the word once in his conversation with Zelensky. He didn't. He only mentions investigating the Bidens and the democrat server. Later on Trump was asked about the call and what he wanted Zelensky to do. Trump didn’t answer “investigate corruption”. He said “start a major investigation into the Bidens”. Hmm. A major one huh?

Again, it doesn't really matter whether the thought occurred to him that he would benefit from it. It was within his legal authority to do. In fact, he had an obligation to do it.

    What investigation?
If that investigation inadvertently helps Trump (keep in mind Biden isn't even an opponent at this point), that's just icing on the cake.
    Yes he was.
But, to suggest a US President cannot ask the leader of another nation to investigate corruption because the US President *might* benefit in the future is just silly. It's not supported by law or policy.
"Investigate corruption" is one thing. To specifically designate the target, a political opponent who had already been investigated by the US, and other foreign sources who found no corruption, is yet another.

Here is what you republicans don’t seem to understand. People genuinely believe that Trump is unfit for office, not because of his policies, but because he abuses his power, because he has a dirty past and a dirty present, and therefore likely a dirty future. If this call to impeach was simply political opposition, people would have applied this much pressure to previous republican presidents. They didn’t. This is different.

If we ignore Trumps misdeeds, such behaviour will become available to democratic presidents in the future. I get that you don’t care. You want your judges, you want your cuts. But as we shed more and more inconvenient checks on the power of the president you may find that the next democrat president will become a true maoist nightmare for you.
lol thats funny its not political lol tell us another one

Would it have made you feel better is Trump had called on the Ukraine to investigate their meddling in the 2016 election or Burisma/Hunter Biden in his frequent speeches.
Trump's team was storing most information on a secured server because of so many leaks and some guy calling himself anonymous running around the WH. Is anyone here saying they would not be doing the same thing if they had people trying to steal and publish every email that they wrote?

Trump's targeting is similar to the DEA going after a druglord rather than every petty dealer on the street.

We don need no stinkin evidence!
When Donald Trump said to protest “peacefully”, he meant violence.

When he told protesters to “go home”, he meant stay for an insurrection.

And when he told Brad Raffensperger to implement “whatever the correct legal remedy is”, he meant fraud.

    War is peace.

    Freedom is slavery.

    Ignorance is strength.

I'm still laughing about the notion that this impeachment effort isn't political.
