Every way it can be done is legit. It's a part of baseball. Television shows the catcher giving the signals. You can't be more obvious than that.

It seems the commish disagrees. Look at how badly cheating cost the Patriots. Oh, wait a minute. Never mind.

As stated in Post #3, I don't condone the use of cameras or any other electronic device in "sign stealing".

At the same time, in a way it's ironic that in this day of video replay on virtually every conceivable play on the field, and talk of fully implementing Pitchtrax or some other method of "helping" the home plate umpire get it right on ball and strike calls, such serious punishments should be meted out because the teams and the players themselves sought to utilize cameras to do their jobs better.

Those aren't the only signs being sent in a baseball game.

The difference is that unless you've got a runner on Second to relay the catcher's signs to the batter or the dugout - which happens, and the batter can be assured of a ball being aimed at his head if it's detected - there is no line of sight between the dugout and the Catcher's hands.

The television broadcast is on a ten-second delay. Even if there were a t.v. monitor in the dugout - which I'm fairly certain is not allowed...if it were, the Manager wouldn't have to call down to the video room to see if he should appeal a call - by the time the dugout relayed what they believed the pitch was going to be to the batter, it would have already been thrown.

I have changed my mind on this issue. I see nothing wrong with sign stealing as long as it's done without electronic support.

Actually when you think about it, this story is kind of funny. Beating on a garbage can? Really?
