I don't remember the source, but there was a facial recognition program recently that used a database of thousands of faces, and the conclusion that was determined from this is that there are about 5,000 "unique" faces among the general population. In other words, there are only about 5,000 variations on human faces that are significantly different.

With 5,000 unique faces, the number of mixtures of those 5,000 can be calculated and given the human population, the odds of duplication as a mathematical formula.

It's a scary thought, but I think we're reaching that kind of calculation via things like facial recognition software. It also shows the potential for mistaken identities implicated in crimes using said software.

This story is a bit old, but not sure if you guys seen the story going around about Greta Thunberg? A 120 year old picture was found to be of her likeness and it went viral that she is a time traveler, Lol. I thought it was a fun story. I really like Greta.

I don't know as much about fingerprints, but I believe there is more room for variation in those than faces. Logically, there has to be an upper limit, however.

When I was a kid, there was a guy who worked in the store where my father got his tires who was the spitting image of Paul Newman, blue eyes and all.

When I was stationed in Hawaii, a new guy checked into the command and I ran into him a couple of days later, and we just stood and stared at one another for a minute. It was like looking in a mirror. What was especially weird is that we were both former aircrew, so we both had the gold wings and several rows of ribbons, we were both E-6, and between that and the facial resemblance and having similar physiques he had spent the previous couple of days having people call him by my name; of course when he saw me he understood why.

When I was a kid, Ben Savage (of Boy Meets World) was my doppleganger. From elementary school through high school, everyone called me Cory Matthews, lol. Can’t see it now that we’re both older but it was uncanny when we were young kids.

I said im not Angelo, she looked right at me and said Yeah Right. I said who is Angelo she looked at me closer and said well damn you look just like him, I said again WHO is angelo, she said hes the lead bouncer here. I never got to see myself he wasnt working that night
