They’re parables, explanatory texts suited for a population thousands of years old. You’re supposed to read and understand the meaning behind the passages not take them literally, although some do.

I don't believe that event happened, and while I know some Christians believe it, I know others think the story is an etiological myth, designed to teach a lesson to early society. There are different forms of Christianity, for instance Catholicism and Protestantism and all the other offshoots that arise from that. But despite those differences Christ and his teachings are a uniting force among Christians.

Did anyone believe Obama when he said he was going to heal America, or Trump when he said he’d make Americans rich? We’re supposed to understand the meanings behind them, not take them literally. The same with the Old Testament that was being taken literally centuries ago. The world has moved on since the Devil was blamed for poor harvests and the various plagues were thought to be the result of God punishing the world. It’s the 21^st century, update to the New Testament that explains the scriptures in a more modern form of understanding. Look around the world and those countries that abandoned Christianity lived to regret it. China and Russia have now both embraced Christianity and it’s the west that is going the other way.

When at Christmas and you give your kids gifts and they are opening them and having smiles on their faces, think about how many children couldn't have gifts or even a life because God decided it was a good idea to drown them.
