Another old Benjamin air rifle...Rochester, NY

A friend of mine came over yesterday and after hanging out a bit and doing some shooting, he noticed I had some kinda hard-to-find 40 round AK magazines in my stash.

He was out of money, but wanted them real bad, so i asked if he wanted to trade for that old pellet gun he had stowed away in his gun case.

No problem. he goes home with two mags he wanted and I have an odd and old pellet gun I had never seen before.
I did not care for the 40 round magazines as they stick down further than the bipod goes on my RPK, making the whole setup rather clumsy.

So...now I have this old thing, and am starting to like it. I have not shot it yet, but @BenjaminO showed me a technique to see if it holds air and it does. I guess the soup can is next.

I can not find much on the internet on it because I have not found any model that has this big peep sight on it yet.
Not only that, there is no writing on it anywhere I can see except the stamp.

    Yup, a Crosman model 101.

Six years ago that one sold for $107.
I found another site where one sold for $397.

Looks like I traded those unusable 40 round AK magazines for a diamond.

Tomorrow I will be cooking up some Yankee New England style clam chowder in the cheating was a buddy of mine from Maine showed me how to do.
That means I will have two empty Campbell's soup cans available to give it the soup can power test.

I just forgot how many pumps to give it and at what range.

    (going back to the archives...)

Hey Friend. Haven't posted since my stepson/son passed away but his interest as well as mine in old airguns prompted me to post some information for you. Dr. Who is correct, you have a Crosman Model 101.
What's interesting is the history of the variations of the Model 101 from 1926 to 1950+.
The original 1926 version was the "Silent .22 Rifle".
What changed over the years were several small deviations like 4 different Logos, 4 different $#@!ing knobs, different rear sights, straight or bent bolt, forearm variations, various receiver shapes like round or hex, and more little changes over the years.
List of Models from the Blue Book of Airguns Twelfth Edition (1916). Yea dated a little but descriptions are pretty good.
Model 101 Period One "Crosman Pneumatic Rifle" 1926 to 1929
Model 101 Premiere Brand Version 1927 to 1929 Not marked Crosman anywhere (rare)
Model 101 Period 2 "Crosman Silent Rifle" 1930 to 1940
Model 101 Period 2 "Crosman Silent Rifle" Clickless Variant (hard rubber) forearm. 1938 to 1939
    Model 101 Period 3 Post WWII 1946 to 1950+
    Model 101 Period 3 1949 Variant 1949
    Model 101 Period 3 Sears Variant 1949 to 1950
    Model 101 "CG" Variant 1948 to 1949

One of the requirements for the Period 3 Variant 1949 is a knurled rear peep sight. I can't tell from the pics but it kinda looks like the ones on your 101 are knurled. Also the 5 ring $#@!ing knob place it in the Period 3 1946 to 1950 group. The "Pellet Disk" side logo was used from 1939 to the 1950s.

Nice pics by the way. If your rear sights are knurled you may have the Period 3 1949 Variant. It appears to be in pretty nice condition for it's age. Even the screw head for the rear peep sight is not bunged up.

    Hope that helps.

Let me offer my condolences if I had not before. It is nice to hear from you again.
I hope all is well with everyone, considering your loss.

...and yes, it has the knurled sigh ring, the five rings on the clocking knob, and the pellet in the logo.

Looks like for sure it is a Period 3 1949 variant.

any idea what it might be worth in your Blue book pages?

It looks like it was stored more than shot as there is dust in the crevasses and on the front part of the rear sight.
