My money has been on Meyer going to the Browns, so I’m not surprised. The Redskins made a good call, Rivera is a great coach. Panthers made a mistake firing him.

    Why hire him?

    Why hire him?
Winning record, one season of only one loss (in a game their starters were held out for because they were already #1 in the NFC), got to the Super Bowl, etc.

I don't think he'll last long in DC. The Redskins owner is the biggest problem there.

The Browns are a shambles. They have a baseball guy living in California leading search for a new head coach. The biggest question there is, does anyone credible want that job and if they do, why?

Didn’t Meyer leave OSU because the stress of coaching was causing him health problems? Will it be less stressful in the NFL?

I don't know if it was stress due to coaching or just general health issues. Regardless, it's not unprecedented for coaches to take that kind of break from coaching. Bruce Arians took two years off to focus on his health and now he's back coaching the Bucs.

Arians was a long time assistant and head coach in the NFL. College coaches don’t always care well in the NFL. Lou Holtz, Chip Kelly, Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban were all top shelf college coaches who failed in the NFL. There are a lot more who crashed and burned.

True, the actual success rate of coaches is pretty low when you do the math. Of all the head coaches in the NFL, very few have had lasting, consistent success (like, for example, Bill Belichick and Andy Reid). That's true regardless of where they are hired from, whether they were from college or straight out of the playing ranks, or longtime NFL coordinators and assistants.
