But according to the Pentagon they weren't going for the bunkers. They were going for the aircraft, infrastructure and barracks. They hit those targets. Just because American troops weren't there doesn't mean they weren't going for them. Perhaps our early warning systems and the fact that the Iranians informed the Iraqis (they kinda had to given they attacked their country) may have led to the saving of American lives doesn't mean that the Iranians weren't targeting American lives.
