I would really like to retire up there. NY doesn't tax military retirement, so that might work.

The far north east of West Virginia is supposed to have a similar climate and I will have to compare cost of living data.

I want to find warm weather, low taxes and a coastline near by. In the US that means Texas or Florida.

I had a HS chum who was a timber estimator and lived in the hills of West VA and I was surprised how cold and snowy it did get there. The COL up here varies but it general it's pretty decent. You can get lake property ( maybe not ontario) but lake property for a few hundred grand ( with a nice house. Maybe for 200,000.00 in spots. It wonderful here about 9 months a year but I'd recommend going south for a few weeks, maybe even just to an Air B&B
As you get closer let me know. my daughter's a realtor and a damned good one. I could get more specific info for you.

My furniture is old with some antiques. The electronics are exempt, of course.

I have an old oak table in the dining area, I have an antique rocker and a Queen Anne chair and an antique bedroom set in the guest room. No plastic, no chrome.

I even have a 1930's tire sale banner.

I know that area. It would be well worth looking at. Western PA (in the mountains) is also good.
