History Uncovered makes a good point. Firsthand accounts of Medieval combat are quite rare. The author of this account, Jean de Joinville, should be somewhat familiar to anyone with an interest in the topic of the Crusades. He was a Medieval chronicler but he was also a warrior who experienced combat firsthand in Egypt on the ill-fated 7th Crusade. Enjoy.
