Post Les Baer -vs- Wilson Combat

It has always been on my to-do list to get a custom and/or high-end 1911. Yes, yes, I know -- it's probably just marketing (like the Intel chip made itself considered the gold standard) but I've wanted one for a long time.

    Any thoughts on preference?

I have heard good things about Wilson. Not familiar with the other.

Both are excellent guns. If I had to make a choice, I would choose the Wilson. That is more of a personal preference than anything else. If you really want to go absolute top of the line, go with a Nighthawk.

Now, will they do anything any other quality 1911 won't do?

No, but sometimes, that isn't really what matters. Just knowing that you own a Wilson or a Les Baer is its own satisfaction. It is kind of like owning a Rolls Royce. On a practical level, it is just a car. It does the same thing as a Ford Escort, but it does it with style.

They are. My shooting partner carries a Nighthawk. Before that, he carried a Wilson. He prefers the Nighthawk, so the Wilson mostly just sits in his safe these days.

I liked my old Sig P220. Basic but quality .45. The new Sig the Army just bought looks great.

I bought my first personal 1911 in 1977. It was a 70 series Colt Combat Commander. The 70 series guns were the best of the Colts. I still have it. I haven't shot it in years.

In '94, I bought my first Kimber. It was an original Pro Carry, which is based on the 70 series Colt. The current generation of Kimbers are based on the 80 series Colts. My wife has a Kimber Aegis which is a 1911 chambered for 9mm that comes out of Kimber's custom shop. It is a beautiful gun, it has got the concealed carry melt and a bunch of other bells and whistles.

I stopped carrying my Pro Carry a few years ago, but I still use it for classes. The 1911 is still a very popular platform and will be for a long time to come.
