There was a good article in Real Clear World yesterday about the same problem between the US and Iran. Both are basing currently foreign policy on long past issues. The author argued that diplomacy has to get past that and focus on the future.

The difference is that the Poles remain unconvinced that Russia has abandoned her claim on Poland and the region. I would be wary too.

I would agree with that author , for sure.....although , the US attacks on Iran are current and ongoing and about to increase , according to His Orangeness.

The bottom line here is that it's now 2020 , and Poland is still pissed with a Union of countries that no longer exists . I think it's Poland that is perpetuating the bad relations with Russia , mainly because they are being coerced by the interests of NATO . Apart from that , it's not acceptable for the Polish head of State to be altering any historical facts at all.

...but the head of the snake is still there and it seems that he wants to reconstitute the empire.

I understand that they are wary. I however don't think Russia has the economic power to take Poland over. They could seize it, but then what.

Of course it doesn't but they have a (long) history of doing so. That Russia desires to dominate the region seems obvious enough and the experience of Russian domination is well within living memory. I have to side with the Poles on this one. Let bygones be bygones is easy for us to say. It also seems self-serving and less than sincere coming from the Russian government.

A new archive of factual historical information, if it's authentic, would be a good thing, seems to me. Perhaps it would shed light on why jews are historically always at the center of trouble.

My late father fought for the Polish resistance beginning when he was just 15-years-old. His hatred for Germany eventually simmered down to mere dislike/distrust. His distrust for Russia remained pretty consistent, since his parents remained within an oppressive communist regime until their deaths. They simply didn't want to leave their homeland or the part of their family home in Warsaw, that they were allowed to remain in after the communists took power. We are not many generations away from WWII and the history of both German and Russian Imperialistic aggressions in Poland goes back the better part of about 1000 years, the early years mostly involving the Prussians. You don't change centuries of historical animosity in less than 100 years.
