Boris Johnson to Use High Tariffs as 'Leverage' in Trade Negotiations With EU, US .

How absurd...(lol)...instead of a more efficient global trading system , we'll end up with a global tariff-a-thon.......https://sputniknews.com/uk/202001251...-eu-us-report/ ........."As the UK is about to finalise its divorce from the European Union, British officials are also currently preparing for long and contentious talks with the remaining 27 member states, as well as some non-European nations, over the future of mutual trade agreements. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson could threaten the European Union, the United States, and other countries with high tariffs as “leverage” to pressure the nations to conclude trade deals with Britain, The Times has learned. The strategy of threatening trade partners with high tariffs in order to accelerate trade talks was allegedly discussed by Boris Johnson and his cabinet ministers who agreed during a meeting of the EU exit strategy committee on Thursday that the proposal should be put up for consultation."

Europeans threaten to tariff US products such as whiskey, peanut butter, orange juice and motorcycles, the EU announcing just a few days ago they may hit China, Taiwan, Indonesia With Stainless-Steel Tariffs. Beijing threatens to curb its metals trade with the US and slaps tariffs on US products like soybeans, aircraft, and cars.

This is how the sausage is made, PJL, what is Boris Johnson doing that is different from the entire industrialized world?

Again......some Observers never address tariffs by the EU or China as examples. I'm not getting PJL's point. The EU uses tariffs and threats of them as trade policy. China does the exact same thing, so does the United States. So does South Korea and Japan. Boris Johnson taking a Britain First stance and was by the way.....f'n elected to do just that!

Where is the last thread start we've had here on Chinese tariffs of threats of them? Should Trump for example use retaliatory tariffs on China....match some of their import levies......it's called a 'trade war' by many Observers and the American Media. The tariffs on US exports going to China....never ever addressed. Their tariffs, intellectual property stealing, their currency manipulations and market flooding(that everyone does as well), never eve discussed. Find me a thread start on this forum as an example from one of our anti-American crowd discussing Chinese trades policies and threats.

    It doesn't f'n exist.

Well, there is a problem with his plan. The EU and liberals destroyed the industries of the UK so they are in a poor bargaining position. I understand why he would feel a parity with the EU but he has little clout with the USA and they are only 2-1/2 percent of our imports.
We want to do more business with them to help them with Brexit but if they think they are going to twist our arms then "sorry".

Dr. Who can also inform us....that Canada, in addition to imposing the tariffs, is providing funds directly to domestic steel and aluminum manufacturers to support their businesses much like Trump supported US farmers. Huh Dr. Who?

Tariffs are now the fashion, but what all this sis about is the European Union threatening the UK with tariffs if they leave the EU. As the UK imports more from the EU than it exports, it’s Boris warning the EU that tariffs work both ways. Further, as Ireland is divided into two, with one half staying in the EU, Southern Ireland whose trade passes through the Northern Irish non-EU destination would, if the EU start to mess around, could well attract tariffs. That’s what the article is about, not America.

Refugee correct, Boris reminding the EU that tariffs cut both ways. And that article isn't about America, except....America stands ready for a yuge bi-lateral trade deal with Britain as soon as it leaves the idiocy of the EU.
