    Three rockets hit the US embassy in Baghdad

    Three rockets hit the US embassy in Baghdad

    Only one person wounded. Probably done by an Iraqi Shia militia.

    Three rockets slammed into the US embassy in Iraq's capital on Sunday in the first direct hit reported after months of close calls, as thousands of protesters kept up anti-government sit-ins across the country.

    The attack marked a dangerous escalation in the spree of rocket attacks in recent months that have targeted the embassy or Iraqi military bases where American troops are deployed.

    None of the attacks has been claimed but Washington has repeatedly blamed Iran-backed military factions in Iraq.

    On Sunday, one rocket hit an embassy cafeteria at dinner time while two others landed nearby, a security source told AFP.

    A senior Iraqi official told AFP at least one person was wounded, but it was not immediately clear how serious the injuries were and whether the person was an American national or an Iraqi staff member working at the mission.

    The US embassy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

    Yes it does mark a dangerous escalation. One that needs to be noted on these pages. Note with all this other exciting impeachment news and helicopter tragedies, Peter's thread start here does mark a dangerous escalation. These militias are targeting American Troops. Now....any subsequent incidents that may or may not occur must take previous dangerous escalations into account.

    These quotes I'm using by the way are taken right out of Pete's link, look to Iraqi leadership response here;

    Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi and Speaker of Parliament Mohammed Halbusi both condemned the incident, saying it risked dragging their homeland into war.
    I'm sorry…...Prime Minister Mahdi and Speaker Halbusi…….yer "condemning the incident?" What's more.....yer saying that....."it risks dragging Iraq into war?" That's it? And who by chance are you saying that to? The media? Look...….Adel.....Mohammed....don't you need to explain that to Iran! I would hope y'all are actually talking to more than just the media....yes.....explaining to the Mullahs in Iran that they're risking war with Iraq when instigating there attacks. That Iraq.....ain't gonna stand by idle while these Militias fire rockets....Iranian rockets...into the Green Zone targeting Americans.

    Respectfully Prime Minister Mahdi, Speaker Halbusi, in this Observer's opinion, you two need to tighten up...and I do mean today. You're sitting on a f'n powder keg. Iran is actively facilitating, supporting, arming, and coordinating Shia militia strikes.....within Iraq. You do get that....yes? That is an untenable situation for the United States, I'm trying to help you two out here.......you do not want to fck with the bull. No one wants what happens next. Don't fck with the Americans in the Green Zone. Not a good idea. No Bueno.

    Someone is going to get their pee-pee whacked pretty soon if they keep agitating. The Iraqi's are going to have a new election soon as well. The Iraqi people do not seem to be proponents of Iran. My two cents.
