Why no post mourning the three brave US firefighters?

I have never heard of Kobe Bryant, and while I am sure he was important to many sports fans and while every death is a tragedy, I am puzzled by the lack of mention of the 3 American firefighters who gave their lives when their water bomber crashed fighting the fires in New South Wales.

They were captain Ian McBeth, first officer Paul Clyde Hudson and flight engineer Rick DeMorgan Jr. And while I mean no disrespect to the basketball player - he died in an accident while on the way to watch a game. Surely these men, who gave their lives protecting other people from the most terrible fires ever recorded, are at least worthy of mention?

I searched the posts here in vain for any mention of this tragedy, but all Australians certainly owe their memory a debt of gratitude.

Thanks for that, but why couldn't I find it?

Also, when I read the thread - instead of talking about their brave sacrifice, all people did was snipe at each other.

If some basketball player's death merited pages and pages, why were people less interested in the sacrifice of these brave men?

Great people die every day William. There are too many to mention, most unknown because the popular media does not report them.

I couldn't care less about the death of Kobe Bryant. His death only has any significance because he left 3 children without a father. That is unfortunate. You are right, William. The deaths of the firefighters, any firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, Soldiers, Sailor, Marines, aid workers... are all more significant and more of a loss to the world. It doesn't speak well for society that people think the death of some guy who played a kid's game for a living is "devastating" while the sacrifices of men and women who gave all trying to help others are ignored.

Good on you for reminding us of that.

William, I can tell you that I did see mention and reporting on the deaths of those three brave firefighters on our msm. There just isn't much more to report until the report comes out detailing the cause of the accident and the return of the bodies to the US.

At tonight's meeting of firemen at the fire dept, all three names were read into the record and a moment of silence was held.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.
