I get that. But was there one particular thing you remember as being the "ah ha" moment that caused you to realize this?
With me, I remember in May, 1979, while on the Connie.
We had just left Singapore, and some of our guys get the San Diego Union paper sent to them from relatives.
There was an article in it saying 5,000 sailors rioted on Bugis (Boogie) Street in Singapore.
This was an utter and complete lie. Nothing even remotely like that happened there.
5,000 would have been the entire crew, both officers and enlisted.
The San Diego Union just printed up a lie and ran with it.
