It is a good analogy to government provided health care. The individual is not relevant. Seal them up in an apartment / tomb. The collective is what matters.

The genome of COVID-19 is associated to bats, SARS, and MERS. It also seems to have a glycoprotein that some Indian researchers interpreted as belonging to HIV when working with the genome. However, the research paper did not have peer review and was withdrew for further review. There are claims, the virus had an intermediate species before jumping to humans. However, there is no evidence of such. So far, there is only speculations but what is real is the epidemic in China and the potential of becoming a pandemic...

Whether this will become a pandemic remains to be seen. Something of this nature though happening is just a matter of time. With overpopulation, pollution etc things are ripe do a deadly pandemic. Biology has a way of reestablishing balance.
