What is it with some people who're so disappointed in their current political beliefs that they refuse to lend any credence to the thoughts of past political philosophies?

You are assuming people look for answers to life's questions and dilemmas. Mostly they (we) are set and react rather than think. Imagine the complex being who wonders daily what is up. It would be a philosophic 'Groundhog Day' every day. I have a thread on another site that has over 55k views on 'why study philosophy.' My argument is thought is hard. Maybe start one here?
A few links - you know I have lots and lots. lol

I loved this piece as it is something I too have experienced in life.

"It is not enough to ask, ‘Will my act harm other people?’ Even if the answer is No, my act may still be wrong, because of its effects on other people. I should ask, ‘Will my act be one of a set of acts that will together harm other people?’ The answer may be Yes. And the harm to others may be great. If this is so, I may be acting very wrongly..." What is this thread supposed to be about?
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

You don't know either?

Because they can't tie today's problems to history and what the outcome was then. Most of the time people lack the energy to think about and then research what motivates the elements that cause our troubles today. It's always a circle because the goals don't change: it's all about power. What ever brings power is the goal. The methods are largely the same as well, they just alter with socially acceptable or non acceptable tactics.
