Virginia Democrats pass draconian, ineffective bill banning ‘assault weapons’

It’s no longer hyperbole: Virginia Democrats want to take your gun rights. At least, that’s what a new bill passed by the Democrat-controlled Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday would do.
The law bans so-called assault weapons, outlawing future sales. This bans popular models such as the AR-15, one of the most popular guns in America. Yet, the wide-ranging ban also makes it a crime to possess or transfer certain magazines. Virginians would have a year to comply and turn them in. If they don’t, they could face jail time.
It’s a radical bill and one that’s arguably unconstitutional and undoubtedly ineffective.
Critics have largely focused on the draconian punishments Virginia Democrats would impose on residents who don’t kneel to magazine confiscation. The National Rifle Association, for instance, said in a statement that “[the bill] will turn law-abiding Virginians into criminals overnight. Under this bill, anyone who owns a standard capacity magazine must submit to mandatory confiscation or face one year in jail for each magazine they own.

I doubt it will stand very long .

Cheers Erupt When VA's 'Assault Weapons' Ban and Magazine Confiscation Bill Fails to Pass...for Now.....

In a major defeat for Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and fellow Democrats in the commonwealth, the Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee voted to not move forward with HB961, the "assault weapons" ban and magazine confiscation bill, on Monday for the rest of the year.

In a 10-5 vote, with four Democrats joining the Republicans, Committee voted to for a crime commission to study the bill to see if it is worth pursing next year. The bill would have banned AR-15s and other similar styles of rifles and banned being able to own magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.

When the bill failed to pass, cheers erupted and some, including law enforcement officers, stood up in celebration. Virginia Delegate Mark Levine, who helped passed the bill in the House, and his collegues in the front row were seen to be very disappointed.....snip~

I understand that it's been tabled and not rejected by a vote which means that no action will be taken until all of the questions and definitions are clarified and/or the bill modified accordingly.

Victory for Second Amendment: 'Assault weapons' ban dies in Virginia Senate.....

On Monday, the Mike Bloomberg and Gov. Ralph Northam-backed "assault weapons" ban that passed the Virginia House of Delegates died in the state Senate Judiciary Committee.

The vote failed after four moderate Democrats broke with their party to kill the bill. Bravo to these four brave souls, who will have undoubtedly earned the ire of the anti-gun lobby, but ultimately, did the right thing. After all, there was no compelling evidence supporting this proposal to begin with.

    Tabled for a year.....
Can you think on your own as to why it is a clear defeat for the Democrats?
