A 35 cent tour of my MAN CAVE.

In another thread some light-hearted discussion was made about my man cave and what some said should and should not belong in there, so, I says...Dave....let's just give everyone a 35 cent tour.

I am proud of my man cave and it is constantly undergoing minor changes as i see fit.

I did not bother to spruce it up. Why? I did not feel lie it. I love to spruce it up a lot, but right now it is 0600 local and I don't want to make much noise.

    My Man Cave 001.jpg

This is the view from my computer desk. The painting is an exact duplicate of the girlfriend I had in Melbourne, FL.
Under it is what I call my 1880's wash station with genuine pharma items from the period I have collected. They include a German straight razor, shaving mug, steptic pencil, ect.

To the left of it is some Africana I collected in my travels. A genuine Zulu cowhide shield & knobkuri(sp), walking stick, but the assegi is a modern replica from Cold Steel inc.
I have an extensive collection of African maps of various periods. I paid to have originals sent to me from period books from all over the world. Africa is a fascinating continent.

In the foreground is my couch with Billy Bones. He was made famous from the novel Treasure Island. came to visit once, loved the man cave so much, he never left. Now he just lays around and watches TV. Does not eat much though.

The helo (Navy people call helicopters HELOs) on the wall is from my first squadron HSL-34 and is an SH-2F aircraft. The " Green Checkers ".

These patches are a collection I started way back when i was a kid in the Boy Scouts, and follows my life through patches. 1968 and 69 Camporees, My Jr. High football letter, My Sea Cadet rank, a patch and the ship US Navy destroyer I trained on, The USS Ault DD-698.

The rest follow my life and since. The ones on the brown periphery are general in nature and just make general statements.

The next poster of all the warships is a cool poster i found in Naples, Italy and shows battleship developement from the 1800's to the 1980's, when i got it. It is written in Italian, but as it is a latin based language, it is not too hard to read at all. The main reason i bought it is because it has the USS Texas BB-35 on it.

This pic shows my bookself with bar, my calendar of events, cluttered reloading bench, and the window my cats take turn looking out of during the day. The morning sun shines in the window and they love to lay there and bask in it. I put the tubs there to make it easier for Marmalade, my soon-to-be 15 year old male cat to be able to get up there.

Up high above the bookshelf is my sword, knife, and bayonet collection. I have three more to add to it and am thinking about putting them on the right side as if to make a turn along the wall.

The books include my Bill Mauldin collection. All I can find from MAD magazine, trivia, celestial navigation, slide rule manuals, and other older technology.

In the wood box above the cluttered reloading bench is a sextant from 1912. The year the Titanic went down.

    My Man Cave 004.jpg

This pic is from the right side of my desk, 180 degrees away from the other side.

Let's start with my ducks. I found them in Nebraska and love them. Since moving here, I made the willow branches out of dowel rods, those little wooden beads you see on car chair back rests, and some feathers from the hobby store.

To the right of them is " Smilin' Jack ". I got him in Nebraska too through the BudK catalog. He introduces you to the Pirate Corner of my man cave. There you see the obligatory parrot perched on an original gimbaled oil lamp use on ships.
There also hangs a replica flintlock pistol and a battle ready cutlass, but you may not be able to see it as it is further around the corner.

The bible below it all is opened to 1 Kings 3:6-11. This passage is especially important to me as when I was about eight years old I read it. King Solomon was also my age when God said he would give him any gift he would like and he would have it all his life. A a kid my age he asked God for WISDOM (common sense). After I read it, I prayed to God for the very same thing, and feel my prayer was answered.

This is a pic of a display section i have decided to include under the 72 inch TV.

It is real hard to find shelving over 12 inches wide, but i did.

The wood needs to be stained and sealed, but I wanted to get it all up and see how it looked overall first.

The first case has an original 1917 Imperial German Luger with flag and shoulder stock. Lugers are exempt from laws concerning shoulder stacks because of their age.

At the far end is an American aviation sextant used in all aircraft from WW2. They used a bubble artificial horizon and ran on D cell batteries.

I have not decided what i want to display in the other two cases, but am thinking about my slide rule collection, and...???

Above it was my foolish attempt to have a Feng Shui sand garden and a display of my four pewter loggerhead turtles. The cats had other plans and kept walking over them and even pulled the palm tree off the turtle display.
