My experience was the physical violence in domestic violence cases was started most often by the women. Men are bigger and stronger and cause more damage. Men are also reluctant to whine about their wives hitting them.
When some feminists in our city wanted an ordinance that said the police would have no discretion and if there were physical violence the husband would go to jail. The police officers being briefed on the new law laughed and said, "So, she hits him in the face with a skillet and we take him to jail."
So, the law passed with the police being required to jail whoever used violence. That meant most often the husband went to jail, the wife went to jail, and the kids had to go somewhere other than home, usually. The feminist also got things the husband might say such as, "I'm leaving and you can get a job," as domestic violence. Saying mean things if you're a man are just as harmful as a punch in the nose. I asked if the wife saying, "I'm keeping the kids and you'll never see them again," was domestic violence and the feminists were shocked that I would ever ask the question. I'll admit it was stupid. Of course not.
My favorite was a call where when I pulled up the husband was in the yard screaming, "You're cold woman."
"You'll think cold when I slam your dick in the freezer."
Now, a word of advice. Before you intervene in a domestic disturbance, quit laughing.
