    Dining on MREs

I have been dining on my stock of MREs to determine the ones I like best and the ones I might use as trade goods or the ones I will eat last.
With the threat of a nasty killer virus looming, I have mentioned them as a good way to have something good to eat..."just in case"...the grocery store shelves become empty due to panic buying.

Well, I normally have them in the early morning, then sit back with the coffee afterward.

This is to let other members know what they may expect if they go this route, or may not know what is really in them.

Today i had meal number 9. Beef stew.

    Start the slide show.

The Beef Stew was really good, tender, and did not need any seasoning at all, IMO.
I did open the small packet of hot sauce and put it on the side of the plate. After tasting it, I went ahead and mixed it in with the stew. The hot sauce was a bit hotter than my beloved Texas Pete, but did not have the heavy vinegar smell of Tabasco, but was damned near as hot.

After the stew I had the Poppy seed lemon pound cake.
It was kinda dry, but the flavor was good.
make sure you have something to drink with you if you want to eat it.
Pic to follow when they system calms down.

Next item on the menu was the multigrain bread that looked like a piece of hard tack from the civil war, though it was soft.
I thought I would squeeze out the peanut butter and grape jelly on the plate with them and eat them together.
    Bad idea.
The bread tasted like a moldy old gym sock but the texture was soft.

I tossed the bread and finished the peanut butter and jelly on some Ritz crackers.
Both were very fresh tasting and quite good.

pics to follow when the system gets back to an even keel.

The coffee and creamer dissolved nicely in the boiling water, but they only supply one sugar packet, so I had to add some of my own. Still, it was very nice.

The rest of the meal comes with matches designed to strike in high humidity, two Chicklets, some really fine paper, I can only guess is toilet paper, a moist towelette, long spoon, a pretty large packet of salt only...no pepper, and Grape flavored energy drink.

Overall, it was quite nice, and i have been enjoying eating through my stashes in the early morning.

Again...pics to follow when the system settles down.

What is that blue drink? You should be saving those MRE's for an emergency. Lol. If SHTF (and it might) you will wish you had them.

I do know that MRE's can be very good eating, though some are not. Shouldn't you wait until curfew or quarantine to break into your MRE's?

I had an unexpected treat yesterday morning when I found a Brown sugar pop tart enclosed in the MRE meal bag.
I saved it for the wife, as those are her favorite.

pics later to be provided. They system is a little bogged down right now.

    Patience, Dave

The blue drink is what they call Carbohydrate Energy Drink - Grape.
It too was actually pretty good. I have a pic for you when they system allows it.

    Let's see....

The chewing gum is a nice touch. Gum evidently can be an "ice-breaker" for people.
