We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are all made from the same dust of stars. We cannot be separated because all life is interconnected.

I said a week or two ago that it was aerosolized. But it was a Chinese study, so it was risky for me to pass that on.

The global trade in wildlife and other infectious diseases. Warnings were issued long before COVID-19 occurred. It Is not just China that is involved in it.

"Threats to global health and risk factors for emerging infectious diseases run the gamut from climate change to poverty to security issues, but few are as immediately manageable as the global trade in wildlife. Trade in wildlife provides disease transmission mechanisms at levels that not only cause human disease outbreaks but also threaten livestock, international trade, rural livelihoods, native wildlife populations, and the health of ecosystems."

Vitamins C and D Finally Adopted as Coronavirus Treatment

Doctors in New York are now using high levels of Vitamins C and D to successfully treat coronavirus.

    STORY AT-A-GLANCE

    • Vitamins C and D are finally being adopted in the conventional treatment of novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. This fortunate turn of events is likely to save thousands of lives, while keeping health care costs down
    • Seriously ill coronavirus patients in New York state’s largest hospital system receive 1,500 milligrams of intravenous vitamin C three to four times a day, in conjunction with other conventional treatments
    • Vitamin C at extremely high doses acts as an antiviral drug, actually killing viruses
    • In recent articles, former CDC chief Dr. Tom Frieden and Dr. John C. Umhau, a public health specialist at NIH, highlight the usefulness of sun exposure and/or vitamin D supplementation to reduce your risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection
    • Although vitamin D does not appear to have a direct effect on viruses, it does strengthen immune function, thus allowing the host body to combat the virus more effectively. It also suppresses inflammatory processes

Trafficked pangolins can carry coronaviruses closely related to pandemic strain
Scientists and advocates say this new research is yet another reason to crack down on the illegal trade in these scaly mammals.

New research finds evidence that a small proportion of pangolins carry coronaviruses related to the strain responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a paper published March 26 in the journal Nature.[...]

Despite Covid-19 fears exotic animals remain at grave risk
By Daniel T Cross on April 3, 2020

[...]Nor is it only bears that continue to be feeling the brunt of unflagging demand for exotic animal parts in China and elsewhere. Pangolins, too, remain at risk of being poached into extinction just so that their scales can be used in traditional Chinese medicine. These scales, which are made up of keratin, have no real medicinal value whatsoever.

According to a new report by the Wildlife Justice Commission, a staggering 206 tons of pangolin scales were confiscated in 52 seizures between 2016 and 2019, from Africa to Asia. And that, it says, “is only a fraction of the total being trafficked as it is likely that a significant proportion of smuggling passes undetected.”

There have been suggestions that the deadly new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 may have originated in pangolins as it bears a close genetic similarity to a virus found in these placid anteaters.
    [...]
Unless demand for their parts in traditional Chinese medicine lessens, pangolins and other critically endangered animals may well be doomed.

So the answer is to drink plenty of OJ and get a natural tan?

Coronavirus: Putting the spotlight on the global wildlife trade

    April 14, 2020 Supertrooper

    [...]

    Wet markets

Wet markets have become a familiar sight in many countries in Southeast Asia, particularly mainland China. Selling live fish, chickens and wildlife, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, they get their name from the melting ice used to preserve goods, as well as to wash the floors clean of blood from butchered animals.

Wet markets can be “timebombs” for epidemics, says Prof Andrew Cunningham, deputy director of science at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). “This sort of way that we treat… animals as if they’re just our commodities for us to plunder – it comes back to bite us and it’s no surprise.”[...]

    Leap to humans

The current coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives, likely originated inthe Wuhan seafood market. Despite its name, the market was selling a lot more than fish, including snakes, porcupine and deer, according to one report.

After an initial cluster of cases connected to the market, the virus began spreading dramatically inside China, before reaching much of the world. The origins of the novel virus are unknown, but it most likely emerged in a bat, then made the leap to humans via another wild animal host.[...]

    Supply and demand

    [...]

“Even in protected forests, the forests are still there, but the wildlife’s gone from within them because they have ended up in markets,” he says. “. And it’s easy to finger point, but it’s not just happening in China, it’s happening in many other countries and even in the western world. We like to have exotic pets and many of those are wild caught and we ought to be putting our own house in order too.”

Our Exploitation of Wildlife Is Directly Causing More Viruses to Spread to Humans, Study Shows
    CARLY CASSELLA 8 APRIL 2020

A global pandemic is as good a time as any to reflect on where we as humans went wrong. Human impact on animal populations worldwide is a direct contributor to zoonotic disease spread, according to a timely new study.[...]

The research has found our continued exploitation of the natural world - through hunting, trade, habitat degradation and urbanisation - has shifted mammal populations and led to a rise in infectious animal diseases that can spill over to humans.

It's all about proximity, and as human society continues to encroach upon the natural world, increased contact with wildlife has inevitably raised the risk of virus spillover.

In the end, there were three groups of animals that carried the greatest risk of spillover viruses. Unsurprisingly, domesticated animals, like livestock, shared the highest number of viruses with their human owners...

...ones that appeared to share the most viruses with humans were those that had increased in abundance and adapted to human-dominated environments - animals such as bats, rodents and primates.

...struggling species threatened by habitat loss or over-exploitation were predicted to host twice as many zoonotic viruses compared to those that were decreasing for other reasons. In short, when humans are around, there appears to be more risk of virus spillover. And, in all likelihood, we've been underestimating the true danger of this happening.

That being said, even struggling species threatened by habitat loss or over-exploitation were predicted to host twice as many zoonotic viruses compared to those that were decreasing for other reasons. In short, when humans are around, there appears to be more risk of virus spillover. And, in all likelihood, we've been underestimating the true danger of this happening.[...]

The study was published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.
