This topic brings to mind a film I saw last year, called Yesterday. A struggling, small-time song-writer/musician wakes up one day to discover that the Beatles never existed - and that, of course, no one in the world has ever heard any of their songs because they were never written. No spoilers, but there are twists and surprises aplenty in this story; it's both very funny and in spots almost heartbreaking. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it.

A little bit off topic, but since you brought up Warren Zevon... A bunch of years ago, there was a little pub outside of Ft. Bragg that catered to specific clientele. The walls were covered with photos, mostly of guys who had passed on. There was a HALO rig suspended from the ceiling, and there was a jukebox. The jukebox had 5 songs on it... Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Lawyers, guns and Money, Scotland the Brave, Waltzing Matilda, and The Ballad of the Green Berets. If the owner had lived longer and the people who bought it from his heirs hadn't turned it into what looked and felt like an IRA hangout, I am absolutely certain Sgt. Mackenzie would have been added to the play list.
Many a war story was told and many a brew was consumed and many a tear was shed in memoriam in that place.

I must confess I've never understood why 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is so revered by so many people. I've heard it called "the greatest, most perfect rock song of all time" and similar, and I really don't get it. I could easily list a hundred rock and roll songs that are better, in my opinion, and I'm not even a serious music guy. Heck, Pete Seeger alone recorded about a half dozen of them.

Speaking of Cobain, I know that after he checked out some folks pointed to the line in Neil Young's song, 'Hey Hey, My My' that goes "It's better to burn than fade away" as potentially inspiring the act, and Young responded that the line to remember goes, "Once you go, you can't come back".
