    VA new gun laws

    VA new gun laws

VA passed a couple of new gun laws- background checks for all gun sales (including private) and only one gun purchase per month unless you have a carry conceal license. Happily the more crazy proposals were rejected by the Senate- the extensive "assault" weapon ban that included common pistols and others.

The gun-control measures are the final pieces of a package backed by Gov. Ralph Northam (D) that has been a top priority for Democratic legislative leaders. Seven of Northam’s eight gun-control bills are headed to his desk to be signed into law. The Senate killed the eighth, which would have banned the sale of assault weapons and possession of large-capacity magazines.

I'm actually for universal background checks (the one gun a month thing seems kind of silly) but I understand the unwillingness of 1st Amendment advocates to compromise. Their opponents aren't looking for compromise but European style gun restrictions.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

The same background check we currently use for licensed sales? Or expanded in some way. How do you enforce private sales? You wouldn't consider that an infringement?

Because criminals are so worried about buying and selling illegal weapons. Not!

Yes, or something like it. I don't think it unreasonable that one undergo a background check prior to purchasing a firearm. I'm certainly open to the idea at any rate. I had one for every firearm I've purchased. I was turned down once but that was my fault for being too lazy to get my NJ Drivers License updated. Enforcing that on private sales would be difficult no doubt but the understanding that you are committing a felony would be enough to deter many people. I'm certainly not passionate about it because, like you, I realize what's going on and what the goal of gun control advocates is. They want the nation's gun laws to reflect those in places like Chicago and D.C. No thanks.

No amount of background checks will stop that.

So really, background checks only apply to law abiding citizens. What then is the point?

    That's true of all laws.

Like I said, I'm open to the idea. I don't think it unreasonable but I get it. I'm much more likely to side with you when it comes down to it.
