That article also warns about what is happening and I suspect the left likes:

History is a guide. During the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt managed to get Congress to pass all sorts of legislation wrapped up in his New Deal, which represented a massive centralization of government at the federal level. The level of intervention undoubtedly prolonged the depression and led to a recession in 1937. The actions Congress is considering now won’t be temporary, no matter how they spin it, because history teaches us that government very rarely lets go of its grip on power.

The result of sheltering at home and shuttering non-essential business is economic shutdown.

COVID-19 and the Unintended Consequences of Economic Shutdown

...The health of the economy is not as important as the health of the citizenry. However, the two are interconnected. You can’t crush the economy without exacting a human toll. In a 2018 academic article, Taiwanese researchers Yu-Hui Lin and Wen-Yi Chen showed a link between unemployment and suicide, one that may linger for two to three years after the job market has improved. These findings suggest that even a short, sharp recession has lasting consequences. In rough terms, they postulate that each 1% rise in unemployment leads to one additional suicide per 100,000 people, and a rise in divorces of up to 1%. If unemployment jumps by 5% in the current shutdown of the U.S. economy, that would translate into some 16,500 additional suicides and up to 3 million divorces. The human toll is very real.

Robert Zoellick and others have noted that supply chain disruptions are jeopardizing the health and lives of patients facing much more serious health risks than coronavirus. There are 23 million Americans with cancer or who have had cancer, another 30 million with heart disease, 34 million with diabetes, and 35 million with chronic lung disease. Given the overlap between these groups, around 70-80 million Americans are being treated for one or more of these ailments. If one in a hundred of them die because they can’t get their medicine, or the hospitals can’t take them, there’s another 750,000 deaths.

...Why are we shuttering the global macroeconomy for a threat that temporarily doubles our risk of dying, and only for those of us who are infected? While a muscular national response is both expected and necessary, the old saying of "first do no harm" rates prominent consideration. In a noble effort to save lives, let's please be careful to not crush people’s careers, plans and dreams in the process.

I hope the US smartens up and creates strong US supply chains for their products instead of going back to China. No doubt China will be subsidizing product to get their customers back and the large corporations will run back to them. After all the CEO is only looking at hitting his goals, collecting his payoff and then going to the next job a leaving the prior company in shambles.
We have been involved with so many bailouts that go back to their old sources that we know say "we don't care what your price was", "you pay before we ship" & "you send in the freight carrier" and we only supply in a way that does not jeopardize delivery to our normal customers.
They actually seem to like being treated like crap and are more likely to come back. I can't figure it out, so I just laugh and do it.

They're saying it's ok to kill your family for their greed. When it comes to greed it seems so easy for someone to just trample on the sacredness of the life of every living being, for their own benefit. They are fine with mass murder if it suits them, and have the audacity to call themselves pro-lifers. Un-freakin' believable!!!
It's this posters opinion that greed is a far more destructive and powerful disease than this virus could ever hope to be.......and the virus is now making it bubble to the surface for all to see. It's been there for so long , dictating the life of so many people , from the cradle to the grave . It's worse side effect is complete moral blindness .

I see no problem at all with that......"non-essential" is pretty much self explanatory , and it's the responsibility of everyone (through a wisely spending government) , to support those non-essential business's , and their employees , so they can survive until the spread of this virus is stopped......what it comes down to is a choice between what shuts downs first - the economy , in the short term , or your lungs forever .........common sense is vote for your lungs........stupidity is a vote for the economy. Don't even bother listening to Donald Trump or any of his billionare friends , they can all comfortably afford a truck load of the best new lungs available , and the very best lung mechanics in the world to install them......but most people can't.

Thank you, I have told them what you said. Looks like they made progress today. Being a widow and older, I don't have to worry about rent or a mortgage. No car payments either, so it helps to have someone who knows things to say so.
