What Was Revolutionary About the American Revolution?

IN MY OPINION...the American Revolution was different in that...

1. it was the first time a colony took on and won its independence from a major world power.

2. Our leaders were not uneducated peasants of whom rose up from the jungles and hills. They were very well educated and familiar with local government already.

3. We all had our own arms right there over the fireplace and already had local militias already well established with a well defined chain of command. Equipped & organized local groups was one of your greatest strengths.

4. ...and our greatest strength at the time, I believe....we were not sheep. Passively submitting to whatever draconian orders we were given. Today, only certain sections of the country are this way. other sections like New York state and California are passive and have as much backbone to the government as a chocolate eclair.

Those achievements in the first 50 years were made much easier by the favorable geography of the US. Canals linking waterways from NYC to NO. And not longer after than, north to the Great Lakes.

Few in the know can argue the opening of the Great Lakes was a major factor in opening the Midwest and west to expansion and settlement.
