    I heard an interview last week with some doctor who said the masks (cloth and improvised) are not very effective as you note. He also said the respirators like the N-95 are not effective because they are not fitted to civilian users and civilian users don't know how to properly handle them.

    He said they were still valuable because it is a symbol. I am wearing this to make you (people you are around) feel better that I care enough to try not to get you sick.

    While masks are not completely effective, they do provide protection. The states with lock downs and required masks are reducing the incidence of the virus. A good thing.
