The Roosevelt now has over 100 sick saliors.

The captain of a US nuclear aircraft carrier has pleaded for help from the Navy, amid a growing coronavirus outbreak on the vessel, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Theodore Roosevelt nuclear aircraft carrier, which is currently docked in Guam in order to quarantine the personnel, has more than 100 cases of the virus on board and its captain has asked the Navy for support in order to provide adequate isolation facilities.

Brett Crozier, the captain of the ship sent a letter to the Navy asking for the crew of 5000 to be isolated completely in order to try and stop the spread of the outbreak.

Navy relieves Cmdr. of aircraft carrier hit by coronavirus after letter leaks to media pleading for off-ship quarantine

The Captain of the Roosevelt is being relieved of command for leaking his letter to the press. If they can prove that, he should be court-martialed for telling our enemies that the Roosevelt is combat ineffective.

Why the hell did he write a letter. He has secure coms to call higher.

The U.S. Navy is relieving Cpt. Brett Crozier of his duties as commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, according to a new report.

Crozier had written a letter to the Navy pleading for help in isolating his crew amid a coronavirus outbreak board the aircraft carrier. U.S. officials who spoke to Reuters on the condition of anonymity said the Navy was not relieving Crozier over the letter itself, but because they believe he leaked it to the media.

Also citing U.S. officials, the Wall Street Journal later reported Crozier was relieved on Thursday due to a loss in confidence in his leadership ability.

Nearly 100 of almost 5,000 crew members aboard the carrier had tested positive for coronavirus, sending the entire warship into lockdown at sea.

Crozier’s four-page letter had urged superiors to grant him permission to dock the carrier at a port in Guam and quarantine the crew on land.

I have to ask first how many have died?
How many have died in their age group in the US that did not have a pre-existing condition?

I don't have those answers because the CDC does not share data. The CDC is hiding as much information from us as the Chinese government.

I am under the impression by foreign information only that they are in an age group that makes them very unlikely to have severe illness.

Even the senior NCOs and officers aren't in the dangerous age group.

Update: The Roosevelt has had another outbreak. And 5 of these cases are sailors who had gotten the virus the last time. So what's up? Do we not develop immunity from a single bout or has the virus mutated?

Five sailors on the U.S. aircraft carrier sidelined in Guam due to a COVID-19 outbreak have tested positive for the virus for the second time and have been taken off the ship, according to the Navy.
The resurgence of the virus in the five sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt underscores the befuddling behavior of the highly contagious virus and raises questions about how troops that test positive can be reintegrated into the military, particularly on ships.

All five sailors had previously tested positive and had gone through at least two weeks of isolation. As part of the process, they all had to test negative twice in a row, with the tests separated by at least a day or two before they were allowed to go back to the ship.

I suppose you would have kept the damned boat asea while the vessel was consumed by a virus.
How many healthy fellows does it take to maintain and operate a war machine?

One third or less of the normal complement of officers and crew. There is a lot of redundancy built into the number of crew members on board.

My final duty was on the Ranger. 2/3 down would not only affect the capabilities of those who aren't sick but where to put them?
Officers have their own sleeping compartments. The enlisted sleep in berthing compartments, sometimes numbering up to 75 personnel per compartment. There is no isolating them. There is little to no extra space to hold three guys, much less 2,000 (2/3 of 3000 personnel)
Then we talk about the number of qualified doctors on board and the corpsmen who must attend to their duties as well.
Then we talk about the size of sickbays on carriers. The Ranger had only 15 beds in their "hospital."
Even if there were only 500 that got sick, what would you do with them? How do you keep them isolated from the rest of the crew?
It isn't like a cruise ship where most people have their own compartments.
