Republican Governor refuses to shut down her state.

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-gop-gov-i-will-not-shut-down-my-state-following-herd-mentality-not-leadership

WATCH: GOP Gov: I Will Not Shut Down My State, Following ‘Herd Mentality’ Not ‘Leadership’

Republican South Dakota governor Kristi Noem has refused to implement a lockdown order for her entire state, despite intense national media pressure.Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Noem underscored the importance of federalism and rejected the “one-size-fits-all” approach pushed in the mainstream. “Our constitution ensures that the citizen’s right is protected,” Noem told reporters Wednesday. “I agree with the role of ourgovernment as set forth in our state and in our national constitution. I took an oath to uphold these constitutions.”

“My role with respect to public safety is something I take very seriously,” the Republican continued. “The people themselves are primarily responsible for their safety. They are the ones that are entrusted with expansive freedoms – they are free to exercise their rights to work, worship, and play – or to stay at home, or to conduct social distancing.”

    A couple of points:

    1. I've driven through South Dakota. It's pretty spread out. Social distancing is the norm there.

    2. Must be nice having a Republican governor who is not a slave to political correctness or nonsense out of Washington.

    3. And remember, Trump did not order the country to be shut down. He left that up to each state's governors. When a fake news hack asked him why he didn't just shut the entire country down, he said "There is this thing called the Constitution. You should read it. "

    She isn't the only one.

Nearly all of the United States is currently under full or partial shelter-in-place orders to slow the coronavirus pandemic, leaving just six states as the lone hold-outs. As of Monday afternoon, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Arkansas have no mandatory shelter-in-place directives at the city or state level.

Good for them. Those six states may end up being the six most prosperous states in the United States.

I need to find out more about her. The claim is that she is a Reaganite but everyone tried to claim that. The neocons lined up at the Podium and all said "Just like Reagan" for the last 30 years.

What may be appropriate for one state might not be suited for others. Especially those which are very rural.

Maybe she has confidence that the people in Dakota will practice social distancing without being forced to do it ? ....time will tell.

There's no reason to subject a low-population state to the same mandatory stay-home orders of a state like NY.

    She has the right idea.

Even NY doesn't need a one size fits all policy. Upstate is not NYC.

Truthfully, I agree with a state shutting down if it has a huge infected population. New Orleans and NYC did not shut down and look at what happened to them. Here in Florida, our wise Governor DeSantis closed the beaches before the Spring breakers could have infected each other and carried that back to their home states. And DeSantis required anyone coming into the state from Louisiana New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to be quarantined for 14 days.

Places like the Dakotas (which have great economies due to American energy independence, thanks to Trump) didn't have the mass infected problem.
