We could, and this has been proposed, simply end all taxes and just issue debt to cover all bills in the US.

How is that going to work out?

The only hope is to stop all Federal redistribution and leave the money with the states.

Once you can balance the budget then you can diminish the debt to GDP ratio as you grow the GDP. Paying it down is futile.

The reason it has not happened yet is because the USD is the main global reserve currency. Other nations and people buy US debt to operate on the global financial scene.

I will give you one guess at what will happen once the USD is no longer the reserve currency,.

That is the problem. We depend on everyone being as stupid as us to keep the currencies balance but if China decides to stop spending like a virgin in a strip club then investors will go to the stronger currency.

But t isn't completely. N-95 was named because it only let 5% of the particles of over the range of 1/10 to 1 micron. The Virus cells are about 3/10s of a micron in diameter. So if you wear a mask for 20 days then something will pass through once on average the smallest size pores and 70% will pass through the largest of the pores all the time. That is one of the reasons for the folds in the mask, because it denies you the opportunity to draw in the virus in a straight line through the pore. That is why they tell you to fold the bandana 2 to 3 times if you do not have a mask. It still has the same porosity but you can't suck it straight through the top pores.

So wear the mask but all you are doing is reducing the odds. Eventually the odds are going to catch up to you.

N-95 mask are used in factories all over the USA and I was surprised when this story broke and I realized that this was what our doctors were using for particles measured in nano-meters.

When everyone is using them, they will work. It will keep particles out of the air in the first place. That is the real way masks do their job, during a pandemic like this. The masks are effective. If everyone who is an asymptomatic spreader wears a mask they will not be breathing out these virus's into the air. There is only a high viral load in the air because no one is wearing a mask. Masks would change that. Masks do work.

China has an Ace. We have zero antibiotic manufacturers in the US. Guess where we get them and many other meds? China. China can cripple our health care with the snap of their fingers

That is why we need to move critical supply chains out of china. For strategic materials / products we should move them back to the US. If that means we need to pay more- oh well. If that means we need to relax our environmental laws (as with mining rare earth minerals), oh well.

I agree in the short term.

In the long term (unless there is a game-changer) our debt will crush us. We never never pay off a cent of it. It will just continue to grow.

The stock market is looking at the long term and they are encouraged. But yes, debt reduction or even just debt control needs to be addressed.
