Isn't nature wonderful. Watching baby birds grow up.

For the past few weeks two adult birds made a nest right on top of our front porch light.
We watched as they gathered materials and built their nest. Then one day not that long ago some small little heads popped up. Four of them.
They were not disturbed and we went about coming and going through the front door as normal.

Then, yesterday I noticed they were much fatter than normal. Evidently they were just about ready to take wing.

Today I noticed a new smaller bird flying off with the other two adults I had been seeing regularly. Then as i told Liz this, she said she saw them with a smaller bird on the front yard fence rail.

Sure enough, I go out there today and there are only two baby birds left and both look like they are in full plumage.

It was nice to just leave them alone this whole time, watch them build their nest, hatch their babies, and them see them grow to full plumage and fly away.

...nature taking its course and on its own time...as it should be.

Two flown away and two left to go.
I think I will play " Free Bird " tonight after they all have flown off.

    Thank you for this.

I also have a nest atop my porch light that went up in about a day last week. I don't know the species but it's about 6" deep and round as a can be. I haven't seen a bird in it but I have seen a robin running around in the yard in front of my porch with nesting material in its beak.

Nice family photo you took. Thank you.

I don't know about the robins where you live, but around here, once the babies leave the nest, momma and papa robin become really aggressive and dive at your head if the young are walking around your property. It doesn't last long, as they soon learn to fly, but for a while you might want to wear a helmet when you go outside.

I have no idea what kind of birds they are. Just glad they are all healthy and can fly when their time comes.

I do know they are not a BARN SWALLOW as i got a shot on one on my truck back on 02/18.

I have a 12 ga shotgun and Joe Biden's advice to shoot it up in the air to scare them off. I should be okay.
