    I did not know this.

    To sum up my situation, then:
    -- the nest has been disturbed, presumably by some animal.
    -- only one egg remains out of three original;
    -- rarely is the mother on the nest; I've seen her foraging in the yard several different times. Can't say if the nest has been abandoned, however.

    It might be early enough in the season that I could move the nest to safer location so that this robin (or another) could try again this year, but technically I can't without violating the law, albeit the nest has already been raided. The problem now appears to be a strictly legal one because I'm almost positive the remaining egg is probably dead due to lack of incubation and cool weather.

    What do you think I should I do? (Call appropriate authorities is already covered.)
    Per your link, it's only illegal to move an "active" nest. Once it's abandoned i.e. the birds are no longer spending any time in it, you can move it.
    In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

    Yes, I know. When do I determine that it's abandoned? I suspect it is now, but there's still one egg in it, and I didn't observe the adult in it much ever. I guess I'll give it awhile. Whatever raided the nest the first time might come back for the egg it missed.
