The problem with cooking at home

#1. I'm not a chef. There are only so many different things to make.

#2. Its not like I have my own ocean out back so no go on Sushi or Sashimi.

#3. Its messy. I feel like I need to wear a garbage bag around my neck.

#4. There are only so many ways to eat a ham sandwich. Cajun Turkey was good but after a day or two I got tired of it.

    The upside.

#1. I have gained a new appreciation for frozen french fries and onion rings.

#2. I can go back to the kitchen and get more of whatever I made

#3. Its easy to cook tenderloin. (When it isnt panic bought out)

    Salads are easy
pasta with many difference sauces or just olive oil and garlic.
chicken or steak can easily be baked in the oven, just google for time - I usually use 375 degrees
bake a big potato and load it with cheese, butter, sour cream, etc. Google for time and temp

That sounds good and easy enough. I have been making salads. I cooked a few steaks on the stove. The only thing I have ever cooked in the oven are biscuits. I haven't tried baking or frying chicken yet. I'm thinking about buying a huge brown sugar Ham and working that over. I could always freeze some of it.

Baked steaks are really good. The trick is to have a skillet that can go in the oven. You can sear one, or both sides and then bake to whatever internal temp is required for how ever you like your steak. A good thermometer is a must. Here's an example if how it's done. The internet is your best friend if you're not a trained chef, lol. https://www.delish.com/cooking/recip...k-in-the-oven/

Absolutely. Cast iron if you have it. Super hot and put a good sear on both sides then into the oven. As you say a good instant read thermometer is a must. Finish in oven to a little less than desired temp, remove and let rest a minimum of 5 minutes. You can also do it in the opposite way. That's referred to as a reverse sear. Either way you want the Malyard reaction. Look it up.

You are right about this. Although I don't use a thermometer. I cook my steak 20-25 minutes and can smell it as it cooks and know where it is.

Almost anything. But I cant make a casserole as I have never tried. Im not even sure what kind of casseroles there are. Im used to ordering chicken from Popeyes, BarBQ from downtown, shrimp from the fish place, Sushi and Japanese food, oysters in the half shell etc. Even when I was married we ate out 90%+ of the time. I didnt realize how narrow my focus of dinner choices has been all of these years. I dont even know what all I cannot cook because I dont what that would be.
