You've edited out your post, but because it's in the Pets forum, I fear you lost a furry companion.

Thank you. In short a family member was bitten badly by a 15 mos old pup brought home by another family member. Unfortunately I wasn't consulted on the breed because I'd never have allowed him to buy one with the expectation to allow it to live at home. It was a very bad bite, and Ive seen a lot of them and I had no option then to have the animal humanely put down. Giving it away or putting it in a shelter wasnt an option and the breed is simply not trainable. He would have been a threat his entire life to somebody, I saw it in the first weeks we had him home but I gave the pup a chance.
By "Bad" bite I mean immediate first aid to control bleeding, ambulance, ER visit, probably permanent disfigurement , tho luckily not on the face. You wouldn't believe the damage a 40lb dog can do.
The dog had a sweet, playful side and I thought he was integrating with the family tho I was still wary cause he didnt like coming to outstretched hands. I wont buy a pup that wont come running towards your outstretched hands. I would never buy a pup from that particular type of breed. Still theres gloom in the house cause we love dogs and it was just a lousy day.

It's a sad situation all around. Sorry your family had to go through that.

Naw. My kid got him as a little pup he was never abused. The simple fact is some individual dogs, mostly from specific breeds, are more inclined to bite. Pit bulls, Rotts, Huskies, Akita's, sled dogs in particular go banana's anytime anyone even goes near their food. I wish I had a nickle for every time I heard, "I cant believe my dog did that" when responding to dog bites.
The truth is we anthropomorphize our dogs because we love them and they usually fit into the family well but they are in fact predators and you have to watch them for aggression cues. My GSD is superbly trained yet I wont let him approach other people or allow them to go near him. I have a process to introduce people to him. He's caught people on the property but instead of attacking he actually holds them there until I can come out. He isn't what I'd call a "biter" but your never 100% sure with any dog, even one I can put on his belly with a single voice command or hand signal.
I knew this other one was within days of meeting him. I wanted to take action sooner with a much more benign incident but was voted down. With this latest attack there was no question, just no question. There was no future for this dog around humans. I had the vet get an emergency waiver from animal control but the entire thing just made me sick.
