It's a bit dangerous, if you don't start when they are small kittens and get them used to it.

Damn straight it's dangerous. They're not having one bit of it. I'll seek a professional.

Dogs are thinking that they want to please you, that they want to play and that they are hungry. Occasionally, they are thinking that you are annoying them, but that's rare. It's very easy to read a dog - their body language tells you everything that you need to know. Cats, on the other hand, are less transparent than a dog - also less predictable.

I think with one of those Elizabethan collars and a towel wrapped around the cat fairly tightly, you can extract one paw at a time and clip the nails in relative safety. The cat will hate you for a least two days.

I've kept dogs for most of my life and still have two arms and I've only ever been mildly nipped once. I've never had a dog actually bite me. I've been bitten by cats on a number of occasions.

My ragdoll cats couldn't care less if I trim their nails, and one of them has an anxiety disorder. The key is just to be quick and accurate (and there is a learning curve).

My eldest loves using scratch posts so he wears his down naturally but the anxious cat and the newer kitten require their nails to be trimmed. They generally like the attention for the first two paws, then they realize you are violating them on the third paw, and there's a slight struggle for the fourth. I try to break it into two sessions so they never get to the point of realizing what's going on.
