Why does television portray ministers this way?

I am still trying to figure out just why just why ministers are typically portrayed, on television shows, as being milquetoast.

Usually, stereotypes are based upon that which is typical--or, at the very least, frequent.

But it has not been my experience, at all, that it is typical (or even frequent) for ministers to be milquetoast.

At one end of the spectrum, there are the fundamentalists. (No, I am not one.) And these typically are fiery--and therefore, far from milquetoast.

But even those rather far removed from this end of the spectrum do not impress me as being milquetoast.

    What do others think?

I think its done so the ministry doesn't appear intimidating. In their target demographic soft sells.

Catholic priests are usually very passive. You don't walk out all fired up. Except for the one that led my church during the Vietnam war. I can remember him well. All you kids are no good! Your losers and ...

and we ended up sneaking out with some girls every Sunday and heading down to Dunkin Doughnuts with the basket money.

Yeah, that has been my experience.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

I was thinking they're portrayed as hypocrites and secret perverts. The answer would be that film/TV is very Jewish. They hate us.

Yes, I think this is often the case. (Several TV shows that I have seen--including some episodes of Law & Order SVU--have portrayed ministers as child molesters, or perverts in one way or another.)

That is a really good point. Hollywood is mostly Jewish and nepotism is rampant to keep it Jewish.

My preacher said the same thing to us when I was a kid, he was right too. Then we would sneak out of church and drag race our parents cars

Whoever the producer and Director and writers are for a given show, they portray everything they way they want.

Most of them are disgusting liberals and thats reflected in what they produce...I watch a minimal amt of tv and I dont watch it everyday...I prefer to choose what I read instead

They can eat milkantoast if they want to.

For the rest of us, could you please provide us with your definition of that milkantoast word.
