Have read a number of books on the pair. Fascinating and curiously pathetic.

More than cold blooded killers they were just desperate losers. Clyde did kill a number of people...and showed no apparently remorse. But only when they were cornered and frantic to escape. He was never going to allow himself to be captured again. During their escapades he also caught and later released a number of cops...in an effort to make himself look notorious and increase his fame.

They certainly were not heroes or worthy of admiration. They mostly lived in their car or in a tent during their "rampage". And they were clumsy failures at being criminals. Here is the best book i have read on the subject if anyone is interested:

A little side trivia, they were also rather surprisingly small.
Clyde Barrow - between 5' 5" and 5' 6" tall. Weighed around 140 pounds.
Bonnie Parker - 4' 11" tall. Less than 100 pounds.

So, how many bank robberies constitute "a lot"? Bonnie and Clyde robbed 14-15 banks, some more than once. As gang attrition to law enforcement took its toll, they turned to easier but less lucrative robberies, mainly small groceries. They both had physical disabilities that made walking difficult, and neither one was fleet of foot.

They killed 13 people -- 9 of them lawmen, during a criminal career that lasted two years (1932-1934).

Part of their myth perhaps stems from their strong romantic bond, and of course, their fugitive life. The "Barrow gang" of about ten gangsters captured the attention of the national media and the country. Both came from poverty, and both had suffered physical abuse.

Easy to imagine them robbing some small, roadside grocery in the shade of tall cottonwoods on a hot summer afternoon. On one level, their story is captivating.

Apparently Clyde had suffered a severe boyhood illness that left him ineligible for the Navy (must have weakened his heart) and later in prison lost his big toe and part of the next to an axe - it caused him to later drive barefoot. Bonnie had been in a bad car accident that resulted in battery acid leaking onto her leg and burning it to the bone in some places, leaving her unable to walk at all at times.
