Bonnie and Clyde get made dead by TX and LA state troopers May 23, 1934

On May 23, 1934, notorious criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are shot to death by Texas and Louisiana state police while driving a stolen car near Sailes, Louisiana.

    ***

Texan prison officials hired a retired Texas Ranger, Captain Frank Hamer, as a special investigator to track down Parker and Barrow. After a three-month search, Hamer traced the couple to Louisiana, where Henry Methvin’s family lived. Before dawn on May 23, Hamer and a group of Louisiana and Texas lawmen hid in the bushes along a country road outside Sailes. When Parker and Barrow appeared, the officers opened fire, killing the couple in a hail of bullets.

All told, the Barrow Gang was believed responsible for the deaths of 13 people, including nine police officers. Parker and Barrow are still seen by many as romantic figures, however, especially after the success of the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde, starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.

They were ruthless killers. They got what they gave and deserved every bullet that hit them.

That was a kill mission by the cops. They didn't even try to capture them.

Your kidding right? They killed 9 cops and 4 civilians and you expected what? a taser deployment? Maybe pepper mace?

Of all the low life, manure kicking, illiterate pieces of trash to ever commit a crime I believe B&C to be the worst. When that first movie came out I wanted to barf how they were portrayed, only Hollywood could produce scum sucking garbage like that. I wish the cops would have reloaded and emptied another volley into them just to make them dead, dead.

The media at the time portrayed them as Robin Hoods and sold copy in large part due to the publics hatred of banks at the time but these two losers only held up Mom & Pop stores and gas stations so they were not only low life illiterate hillbillys but they were also pretty stupid too.

When they died they were armed with 3 Browning BAR auto rifles, a dozen handguns, 2 sawed off shotguns, and thousands of rounds of ammo. They had already bragged to the press they'd never be taken alive and had already shot point blank wounded cops laying on the ground, helpless.

And you expected a deescalation technique?

What in my post indicates that I expected anything? Hint, it doesn't. It was a statement of fact.

    Good synopsis, anyway.

A good movie from Captain Frank Hamer's view is "The Highwaymen."

Have read a number of books on the pair. Fascinating and curiously pathetic.

More than cold blooded killers they were just desperate losers. Clyde did kill a number of people...and showed no apparently remorse. But only when they were cornered and frantic to escape. He was never going to allow himself to be captured again. During their escapades he also caught and later released a number of cops...in an effort to make himself look notorious and increase his fame.

They certainly were not heroes or worthy of admiration. They mostly lived in their car or in a tent during their "rampage". And they were clumsy failures at being criminals. Here is the best book i have read on the subject if anyone is interested:

A little side trivia, they were also rather surprisingly small.
    Clyde Barrow - between 5' 5" and 5' 6" tall. Weighed around 140 pounds.
Bonnie Parker - 4' 11" tall. Less than 100 pounds.

So, how many bank robberies constitute "a lot"? Bonnie and Clyde robbed 14-15 banks, some more than once. As gang attrition to law enforcement took its toll, they turned to easier but less lucrative robberies, mainly small groceries. They both had physical disabilities that made walking difficult, and neither one was fleet of foot.

Bonnie was a diminutive 4'10" tall and weighed 90 lb, small even in those days. Her measurements were 34-23-33. She died age 23. *https://justmeasurements.com/bonnie-...lor-hair-color.
Clyde was 5' 4-7" and age 24 at time of death. Their vital statistics vary by source.

They killed 13 people -- 9 of them lawmen, during a criminal career that lasted two years (1932-1934).

Part of their myth perhaps stems from their strong romantic bond, and of course, their fugitive life. The "Barrow gang" of about ten gangsters captured the attention of the national media and the country. Both came from poverty, and both had suffered physical abuse.

Easy to imagine them robbing some small, roadside grocery in the shade of tall cottonwoods on a hot summer afternoon. On one level, their story is captivating.
